General Education Curriculum

All students, regardless of their degree program and major field of study, must complete certain general education requirements.
  The University of the Virgin Islands reserves the right to change its course offerings and rules and regulations at any time.  The General Education curriculum is being reformed and is subject to change.  This new General Education curriculum is intended to prepare students for today’s competitive world as well as for productive and fulfilling lives and responsible citizenship.  Students completing these requirements are expected to have gained the following:

•    Knowledge of the history,  geography,  and demographic    characteristics of the US Virgin Islands,  the Caribbean,
      the United States,  and the world.
•    Knowledge of natural phenomena, the earth, the solar system, and the universe.
•    Highly developed communication skills.
•    Computing and quantitative skills.
•    Personal health and wellness, citizenship, and personal financial skills.
•    Critical thinking, logic, and moral reasoning skills.
•    Self-awareness, interpersonal, leadership, and team skills.
•    Second language skills, multi-cultural and inter-cultural skills, and an understanding of  aesthetic expression in literature
      and art.
•    Information management and research skills.
