At approximately 84 square miles, St. Croix is the largest of the over 100 islands, islets, and cays that compose the American and British Virgin Islands; measuring twenty-eight miles in length and 7 miles wide. Located at 18 degrees 20 minutes north and 64 degrees 55 minutes west, St. Croix is approximately 1689 miles south of New York, 1100 miles southeast of Miami, and only a 30 minute plane ride from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Among its many distinctions, Point Udall (at the eastern tip of the island) happens to be the easternmost point in all the United States.

Relatively flat when compared to its sister islands, St. Croix has had a rich colonial history that centered around a thriving agricultural economy. While its sister island of St. Thomas has been and continues to be a major center of commerce; St. Croix, with its rich sprawling pastures, was home to a great many sugar plantations during the Danish occupation. Many of the sugar mills and great houses still stand proudly today.
